Connect an AI assistant to Asteri

Let an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or Muse look things up in your Asteri account and suggest changes. It works as you, and nothing changes until someone approves it in Asteri, unless an owner or admin turns approval off.

Before you start

  • You have an Asteri account, and your company uses Asteri.
  • An owner or admin has turned on Allow AI assistant connections in Asteri under Settings > Security > Developer.
  • Your company has Asteri AI turned on.
  • Your role can use the AI Operator. If it cannot, the connect page tells you and explains who can change that.

Connect your assistant

Every assistant asks for the same address, then sends you to Asteri to sign in. Menu names change from time to time; look for connectors, plugins, apps or MCP servers in your assistant’s settings.

Asteri address: https://mcp.getasteri.com/mcp

ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT’s plugins and search for Asteri. If it’s there, install it.
  2. If it isn’t there, choose Add, then Add custom MCP server. Name it Asteri, paste the Asteri address, and leave Authentication on OAuth. Check I understand and want to continue, then choose Create as a plugin.

On a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise plan, an owner or admin may need to allow custom MCP servers first.

Open ChatGPT plugins (opens in a new tab)

Claude

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Choose Add, then Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Asteri, paste the Asteri address, and choose Continue. Keep the sign-in settings Claude picks, choose Add, then choose Connect.

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds Asteri once in Organization settings > Connectors. Then each person chooses Connect.

Open Claude connectors (opens in a new tab)

Grok

  1. In Grok, open Plugins, then Connectors. Choose New Connector, then Custom.
  2. Name it Asteri, paste the Asteri address, and choose Add Connector.

On Grok Business or Enterprise, a team admin adds Asteri first.

Open Grok connectors (opens in a new tab)

Muse

  1. In Muse, open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Find Asteri, choose Connect, then choose Continue.

Not every plan of every assistant allows connectors. If you do not see the option, check your assistant’s own help.

Sign in and choose what it can do

  1. The assistant opens Asteri. Sign in with your own Asteri account.
  2. Choose the company the assistant should work in.
  3. Choose what it may do: Look things up only, or Look things up and suggest changes for someone to approve.
  4. Choose Allow. You go back to your assistant.

The assistant sees only what your role in Asteri can already see, in the one company you chose. Anything it reads in Asteri is also shared with the company that runs the assistant, and handled under that company’s privacy policy. See AI assistants you connect.

Try it

  • What needs my attention today? Check today’s jobs, overdue invoices and estimates waiting for an answer.
  • Show my overdue invoices, oldest first, and draft a friendly reminder text for the oldest one.
  • Create a task for me to call back the customer from yesterday’s estimate by Friday, high priority.

Approve what it suggests

When you let the assistant suggest changes, it files a request instead of changing anything. The assistant tells you the request is waiting for approval.

  1. In Asteri on a computer, open Asteri AI in the left menu, then the Operator tab.
  2. Find the request marked Awaiting approval and choose Approve or Reject.
  3. Back in your assistant, ask it to go ahead with the approved request. Texts, emails and invoices go to customers only after you approve them.

Approving needs a screen about the width of a laptop. Requests stay waiting until someone approves or rejects them.

Turning approval off. An owner or admin can switch on Make changes without approval in Asteri under Settings > Security > Developer. Then a change the assistant asks for happens right away, texts and emails to customers included, when the person who connected it is allowed to approve and run it. Asteri still checks permissions and its safety rules, keeps a change that needs a person waiting (such as booking past a schedule conflict), and lists every change in Asteri AI. Switch it off to have changes wait for approval again.

Disconnect

An owner or admin can disconnect any assistant in Asteri under Settings > Security > Developer > Connected assistants. It stops working with the company right away. You can also remove Asteri in your assistant’s own settings.

What it can and cannot do

It can look up customers, jobs, the schedule, estimates, invoices, messages, photos, checklists and saved documents, and prepare new jobs, estimates, invoices, tasks and messages for approval. It cannot take payments, charge cards or see another company. Photos marked restricted and clock-in photos are never shared. A complete list is in the list of everything an assistant can do.
